Egypt had specific methods for communicating with the gods in order to solicit divine guidance for a whole range of human affairs. We will explore the formal oracular procedures as preserved in contemporary accounts and on papyrus. We will also describe the uniquely Egyptian form of dream incubation, necromancy (consulting the transfigured spirits of the dead), lamp divination (lychnomancy), and bowl divination (lekanomancy). We will spend half our session with practical exercises used today to revive these ancient practices for those of us following the Kemetic Reconstructionist path.
